It had been a really eventful and busy weekend!!! Went down to the GAS HAUS to support Jiawei's inaugural band performance... it was jam packed with teenagers - youths in secondary school (they dont even look like they are from poly yet...) and I can't believe these people actually pay $12 to enter a place that is really dim lit, and a little smoky and dodgy looking. For his performance, me and brother actually asked Jineeebombini (who in turn got her friend, R) along... it was kind of weird, cuz the 2 of them being very prim and proper innocent girls' schs' girls obviously looked extremely out of place, and I felt uncomfortable on their behalf... felt the dodginess was too much for them, but thankfully... the crowd of teenagers did not misbehave. I was a bit upset to see some teenagers smoking... it really is unhealthy, but i guess nothing can stop these people who are in their rebellious phase of life... hopefully some of them will figure out what's wrong themselves and turn a new leaf, some others will just make the wrong turn and walk the wrong path......
Anyway, on Jiawei's performance, I am so proud of him, doing the things he is passionate and enjoys. Their band played 3 songs... the last was an original written by him. I didn't know it at first, and already found it rather catchy. I think he has a talent, and since he has the interest, I hope he continues to pursue it. The next thing is to practice and familiarise singing with the microphone... which requires some technique in itself, but it's alright just keep doing it, he'll become betteR!
Following the performance, I met up with Mingli (sssickkk) and Peishi (shittt) and we walked to Arab Street area looking for a Teochew Porridge buffet that Kenrick (colleague) recommended. Peishi wanted to have something plain, as she had been indulging for the past week... well... it was also a good chance to check out Haji Lane which I have long wanted to go, and I love it there! The shops' layout kinda reminded me and Mingli of Greenwich! How I loveeeee Greenwich I just wannt go back there again! We almost turned back into DEVILLISH SHOPPERS and had to get Peishittt to stop us. I fell in love with this brown leather vintage bag in one of the shops. though it's not very expensive ($69) it was a little small and I cannot allow myself to indulge anymore this month having spent in Taipei last week... so I scrambled out of the shop. I'll hit Haji Lane next month again and take a better closer look. I love that place!
We walked around the area of Arab Street, Sultan Mosque and I kinda felt like a tourist on home ground. I've often heard people lament Singapore's really boring & there's nothing to do... I've always begged to differ. True enough, Singapore's not a big place but I've not been to every nook and crany of the little island either. It's up to us, whether to think we've seen it all or there's much more. It goes back to that whole idea of little circles being part of the bigger circles that are part of the bigger universe... well...
Dinner time was near, and since we couldn't find the taiwan porridge, we decided to find something else to eat instead. There were a couple of interesting food outlets around that area, and we were truly spoilt for choice. It was a battle between Organic Food or the Herbal Duck Rice stall beside it. We kept walking past the 2 shops that were right beside each other, and finally settled for the Organic Food shop. Everything looked so green and healthy.. but the portions were really big. It isn't the first time I've had organic food... and apart from Bollywood Veggies that I will post about the next time round, they've always tasted very raw and veggie-ish... so one's gotta be a veggie lover to eat Organic Vegetarian Food! Anyway, the owner of the shop and her little son are pretty cute and hospitable... the little son was taking photo of us taking photo of their food... haha...
Sssickkk's Brown Rice Shittt's Zha Jiang Mian
Freakkk's Spinach Spaghetti
Sssickkk & Shittt Shittt & Freakkk
p/s... shoots.. i think i'm getting better & better at taking photographs of food!!! ladida!
We walked around again after dinner, all the way to Purvis Street... but couldnt find a decent cafe... TCC was a no-no cuz we ALWAYS go there and we should try out some place new... MINT museum didn't exactly appeal... and we ended up at the Hainanese Coffee Shop drinking tea and milk tea instead! Felt so AH-PEK! but heck! it costs only $1.50 for 2 cups of tea! TCC would have cost us around $20 for 3 drinks???! Time to SAVE SAVE SAVE!
I felt so upset for Shittt hearing all the SHIT that she's facing at work. My dear shit... whatever's your decision, we're behind you all the way. We want you to be happier! and free-er! You don't deserve all these! As for me, thanks for listening to all my bitching and complains about hmm... u know what. Let's hope some people will wake up their idea some day.
Sunday was the celebration/party of brother's 21st birthday... I'm so happy for him now that he's turned 21... and that he's thrown the party. I'm so touched to know there are so many people around us who love us and care for us, and that we've got a great family. Thank GOD and whoever's up there for giving me family love. My parents, brother, lovely cousins, uncles, aunties... I'll definitely miss them... so much...
