Shopping is fun. is under-rated.
OMG OMG OMG!
Thanks to great recommendation from Chiew Yen, I went to a sample sale at the LA Fashion District in Downtown. It's a TRULY eyeopening and wonderful experience as we walked through stores and rummaged through racks of great fashionistic finds! All are NEW and in the season, not to mention CHEAP BARGAINABLE DESIGNER FINDS! I'm not referring to mainstream designer stuff like Chanel/Dior/Fendi or the likes of it... but the more gustable and more chic young designers' stuff!
I bought 3 shirt-dresses for $22 each. And original price..... $68 - $120!
Got 1 COOL bag for $25.... 1 necklace for $5 and the other bracelet originally $5 but as it was a little broken, she gave these 3 items to me at $30! So it's free!!!!!!!
The DEVIL in me re-emerges.
Let me show you some samples from the brand, Orion. Darn Nice.
But nope... I didn't buy this one. Just example... Totally MY kind of style... hahaha. I think I have 6 dress-tops? All recent acquisitions. I dont know what to call these. tunics? whatever... hahaha. Shucks and I only have 2 days in a week to put them on. How sad.
I'm definitely gg back next month - last friday of the month to grab MORE.
Muahahahahahahahaahahahaha.
Before that, I must try to save up more money this month. US Economy is bad...
Realise something? I don't talk about W-O-R-K in my blog.
Which goes to show I do separate W-O-R-K from my private life pretty well.
So, I am an expatriate... in a foreign country. What's the expectation of an expatriate? Just want to ask. What do I do in my free time? Or do I just work and work and work everyday? Am I entitled to free time?
I'm always one who believes in balance in life. When it comes to work, I give in my all. When it comes to play, I also give in my all. I also enjoy having Out of Work Activities, like pursuing classes and interests out of work. Life is more than just working, donning your jacket, sending emails, disseminating info, fire fighting, negotiating, monitoring, managing how others work.
Ever since I graduated from school, oh in fact even when I was in junior college, I was pursuing Japanese Language on the sideline. It went on all the way, even when I started to work. I only stopped Jap Classes last year due to my posting.
So now that I've more or less settled down living in America (though it is almost time to move on somewhere else, just don't know when...) I took the bet and joined 2 art/design modules. Something that I was keen to learn ever since eons ago.
Am I sending the wrong signals to my bosses and peers that I am SoooOOOOoooOOOoo free that I can join classes?
Well.... I was kind of apprehensive that I may create such an impression. The only reason is because I am afraid that they will send me elsewhere to be a SM, and I wld have wasted my USD 1500 (ard there) for my course. It is really the main reason.
What can I say? All I can say is that I believe there is nothing wrong in pursuing my interest. I would have done so even if I was back in Singapore in my Head Office job. I'm taking the course in my free time - after work, and on my day off, so I am not utilising company time. My boss was surprised, but did not stop me from doing so, and even asked how it went. So, shouldn't have a problem right? In any case, the deal has been sealed, and I truly enjoy the classes, and gain so much knowledge. So... ...
And yet, some others can shake their heads and say they have so much work to do, no time for such things. I think having lots of work to do is a matter of time management. In this world, EVEYRTHING is urgent, EVERYTHING is important. So, NOTHING is urgent and NOTHING is important anymore because everything is matter of relativity. Of course, I am in no position to tell others how they should work, but at the very least, I know if I am not happy, I will find a way out on my own. Way out of Unhappiness. Either solve the problem, or give up - which means quit. And don't complain anymore.
In my period of unhappiness, I wriggled myself out, and never looked back. I don't think I have felt a tinge of unhappiness at work ever since that down period. Those were the watershed years/mths.
A productive and effective worker <- Being a Happy Worker <- Being a Happy Person <- Doing things that make me happy <- Doing things that make me happy = Pursuing my interests such as travelling, exploration, cooking & arts, relaxing, talking to friends & family

Hello everyone! Hisashiburi!
Right now, I'm yearning for a glass of iced cold CHIN CHOW!
It's a cold night... though I had ten zaru (cold zarusoba) and iced green tea, I still feel I need some cold water! Must have worked out too hard... doing laundry... Haha.
It's been a longggg while since I updated this blog... ever since January!
I had so many visitors I think I kind of lost count...
Starting from January, Jeff & girlfriend came, then brother came for 1 mth! Parents came, CK came, JK came, Maria came, Mingli, Xueli, Huimin came!
I felt so happy that they came, but lonely every since the 3 gals left last friday.
Well, here's an synopsis. I promise to start bloggin abt my travelling adventures... starting with oh-so-serene-even-more-relaxed-than-LAX's- VANCOUVER!

Recently I've begun to pick up my pans and pots again! It's been a long time since I had my own cooking... haha. AND I've tried to be more adventurous and ambitious (though it's still simple cooking... in many people's eyes).
Hit the Korean supermarket - Freshia at Torrance this weekend. I thought I will be lost in translation, oh well, thankfully only 50% lost. At least I managed to recognise sesame oil haha.
Tried cooking Japchae! It's the first time trying and it tastes nothing like what I tasted that day when Deborah cooked it. Something was missing there... I think it's the soy sauce. I was there sniffing the different brands of soy sauce. Though I was tempted to buy, it was too big a bottle! And mum just brought over my favourite one and only DA HUA soy sauce that I'm used to. Soy sauce is very important in Chinese cooking... and I grew up tasting Da Hua soy sauce. I remember there was once mum changed brands to Tiger brand. And I could tell something was different! Gosh! And she never ever changed to anything else again. I think I am 100% true and devoted to Da Hua. Even the 'branded' brands like Kikkoman or Lee Kum Kee taste different and STRANGE.
Check out the shreds of carrots, greeen peppers, yellow peppers, onions, chicken (though beef is used in the dish, I am a non-beef eater) and spring onions. Actually I improved! I used to take 2 hrs to slice carrots, now I am down to 45mins! hahahaha...... I think one day I will further improve to 30mins! :) Getting better. Of course, a better investment of knives contributed to greater efficiency and concentrating on the carrot fully rather than MSN-ing at the same time helps.
Japchae was saturday night's dinner... and on sunday night, this was what I cooked quickly and gobbled quickly. A DON of tofu and egg. Yummy is what I can say.
Since it was sunday's night, what I cook would spill over to next day's lunch. Actually I've been waiting for sunday night. Cuz thinking of what to cook made me excited enough. Hahahaha. And here was the bento I packed for Monday -
Tofu and egg don with side of Chicken Marinated in Shao Xing Wine and Blanched Spinach.
Yummy.
home around 7plus and couldnt resist cooking again, and quickly whipped up a fried rice. Shit.... I eat for the sake of cooking, and not for the sake of eating. THis is so wrong. NO wonder I am getting FAT.
Nowadays I'm more excited about cooking than eating....
Looking at the fried rice, this reminds me! I forgot to take a photo of the first ever plate of fried bee hoon I cooked in my life! I had fried bee hoon for breakfast. Oh man... so indulgent. Shoots.
ANd here's tomorrow's dinner/lunch.
A pseudo Chicken Cacciatore aided by Roasted Garlic and Basil Pasta Sauce. (organic one btw...)
I still havent thought of what to do with the basil I have in the fridge. It was meant to make pesto sauce. But I decided that it is too much work without a blender or a mortar....
I think I'll make some Thai Style spaghetti with the basil another day.
Btw... suddenly just dawned on me that the stuff I cook look so boring.. everything yellow, green, white, time to crack my brains again. :)
I wish there were some mouths to feed..... sigh.

After the recent meal presentation, I began to get the idea that presentation is very important in food. Sometimes the way food is displayed can make a dish that is not as good taste even better. Actually, this is old stuff. It has never dawned on me how important colors, placing are, cuz with the CHIN-CHAI personality, as long as the substance is good, it doesnt matter if everything is mixed together. Nonethelesss, now, I've advanced a level and into presentation.
With this new perspective, I've gone on to present some dishes in a better manner. Here they are:
Not too bad?
